CAROL SING & BONFIRE ; FRIDAY DECEMBER 7, 7:30 PM
I know I haven't had a lot of time this year for updates, especially since I ramped up my artwork shows, which I'm doing 8 shows this year. HECKLERFEST is next saturday, 8/25, we have a rain date of 8/26 if necessary. The event is open from 10-3pm for the public, vendors may start setting up at 8am. We may have as many as 26 vendors if everybody shows up, this isn't including our food vendors, or the Colonial craft demonstrations that we do ourselves. Joan had to go for an emergency appendectamy this past sunday, so what she does is going to be limited at the show. We're supposed to have the same music group as last year, we have geneology inside the house, as well as Lee Hallman with his artifacts. Colonial cooking, we have the outside bakeoven going, making homemade pies, and bread. There are hands on stations for the kids to do candle dipping, shearnsnitz, stenciliing, colonial games, I think we have the flint napper up in the barn again. I've also aquired a grinding mill for the kids to put hard corn into, to make flour, this will be set up in the demonstration area between the house and colonial garden. This event is a great way to get out with the family and support groups from the community, some of which are also from the lower salford historical society. Come Out and enjoy. Thank You
We would like to give kudo's to the scouts that have put so much effort into the site. They have fixed the split rail fence out by the barn, made repairs to the springhouse, and fixed and repainted the picket fence around the colonial garden. Restoration inside the house is coming along as well, the one upstairs bedroom is almost completely redone in period attire, the floors redone, we now have some period furnishings, including a rope bed . IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, WE WILL HAVE CANCELLATION NOTICE ON THIS SITE, 1ST THING SATURDAY MORNING, WHICH WOULD PUSH THE FESTIVAL TO SUNDAY. WE WILL NOT POSTPHONE THE FESTIVAL SATURDAY FOR A SMALL DRIZZLE, VENDORS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SET UP, IF THEY CHANGE THE FORCAST TO HAVING HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ALL DAY, IT WILL BE MOVED TO SUNDAY.
We must also thank one of our colleagues, from the lower salford historical society, for trapping out the pesky and nuisance like groundhogs that had been devouring our colonial garden up until that point. The garden has been fantastic since that, and we hope to improve on that again this year. A NOTE ABOUT THE OCTOBER REENACTMENT GROUP ; THEY WILL BE RETURNING AGAIN THIS OCTOBER, RETURNING THE HOUSE TO THE FORM OF A COLONIAL TAVERN, my wife and I came down on sunday last year and find it most interesting, their is a mock church service, story telling, and the tavern interpretation itself .
